About Pilates Trends

Eighteen years ago I began to suffer from a series of back and shoulder problems, starting with a herniated disc aggravated by extended hours of sitting at work. Following three months of physio and lots of rest I was back to as 'normal' as I was going to be for someone with mild scoliosis and a job that required many hours of sitting that I just couldn't give up. Yes, some people really do love their their work! This event really opened my eyes to need for me to be pro-active in preventing chronic back problems.

Through the years I have tried to maintain a high level of fitness through various activities and fitness programs, but until I discovered Pilates I had not found anything that did two very important things—made me feel good after each workout and captured my interest enough to make me really want to keep learning and practicing. To discover how good Pilates is for many common lower back problems has been a real bonus.

Learning Pilates for my own fitness and well-being has been a personal journey, but I have also become very interested in improving the fitness level of my family and friends as we go through the variety of life stages together. I have come to firmly believe that we need to encourage a much greater understanding of our need to stay fit and active at all ages, and we need a stronger commitment to raising healthy, fit and active children. Our modern lifestyles make it a challenge, but the cost is far too high when we do not rise to the challenge and make sure a fit body is a top priority for everyone. I am now a member of IDEA Health & Fitness Association which is the world's leading membership organization of health and fitness professionals, with more than 19,000 members in over 80 countries. IDEA members are coming together to Inspire the World to Fitness™ and making a daily difference in their communities. IDEA’s philosophy is to share resources, ideas and inspiration with all fitness professionals and to make the world a healthier place.

Pilates Trends was born out of this desire to learn more about the practice of Pilates and how it can help people of all ages and interests. More importantly, it is a way to share this information and encourage others to share the benefits. Join me in exploring the world of Pilates—the perfect fitness program for everyone!
