Stott PilatesMoira Stott, was the principle ballerina with the City Ballet of Toronto and later studied Pilates under Romana Kryzanowska, who herself was a student of Joseph Pilates. A neck injury prompted her to adapt some of the principles she learned in Pilates to be more in tune with contemporary exercise science. She collaborated with physical therapists and sports medicine professionals and developed her own Pilates-evolved approach known as Stott Pilates. Among other subtle differences, Stott Pilates works with the natural curves of the spine in a neutral or imprint position. In 1987, she opened up the Stott Pilates Studio which later expanded into the International Certification Center in Toronto, and now has a network of affiliated studios around the world. Her company also produces instructional manuals, videos and professional Pilates equipment.
The Stott Pilates video/DVD series has nearly sixty titles, making it the most comprehensive collection available. Some are geared to a professional audience (Stott Pilates also runs a reputable training and certification program), but most are suitable for both fitness instructors and home exerciserslevels are designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced individuals. Stott Pilates company slogan isintelligent exercise, profound results.
